The Cewe Difference

Jack Cewe Ltd. has a proven track record regarding its concern for the environment and environmental issues. In 1997, Cewe spend two years constructing a $2.5 million dollar clarification system at its Coquitlam, British Columbia location. Only two of its kind exists in Canada at the time, making Cewe the only true producer of environmentally sound aggregate products in the Lower Mainland. A pioneer in this area, Cewe continues to apply this expertise and work with environmental engineers, habitat protection groups and all levels of government in our mines and our construction projects.

To date, Cewe has been involved with several groups including the College and Pit Operators Partnership. Cewe has conducted two symposia – Greening the Gravel, a look at the land use of decommissioned gravel pits in the city of Coquitlam, and Restoration Technogies in Gravel Pits.

Other restoration projects have been conducted that are part of the College and Pit Operators Partnership. Bird boxes have been hung for Chickadees, Swallows and Barn Owls in the Cewe gravel pits. Deer browse planting were also put in the pits. Experimental planting of four different species of native shrubs inoculated with mycorrhizal spores have also been planted in the Jack Cewe gravel pit.

Maintenance and monitoring of these projects will be ongoing research and development to insure an environmental balance between the need for community  aggregate needs and that of fish and wildlife.
